Barton has a long-running tradition of successful Relay for Life teams, raising several thousand dollars each year for cancer research. Check out some of the ways this money helps finish the fight against cancer.
If you would like to learn more about getting involved, whether you're a member of the Barton family hoping to serve on the team, or a community member interested in supporting our fundraising events.
Cancer Awareness Night
In January, the Athletic Department sponsors a Cancer Awareness night and sells t-shirts to be worn at a rivalry basketball game. Barton's Relay for Life receives a portion of the money raised from this event. The amount raised in 2015 from this fundraiser was over $1,100!
Relay for Life Jean Day
Barton's Relay for Life team hosts Jean Day to raise funds for American Cancer Society's Relay for Life for cancer research and to assist individuals, and their families, who receive a cancer diagnosis. Barton employees can purchase a Jean Day sticker ($5) and wear jeans to work on Wednesdays during the months of April and October. Contact any team member for more information.
Luminaries are available ($10) to honor a loved one or someone you know who had a personal journey with cancer. Contact a team member if you want to purchase a luminary.
Relay for Life Event (Friday, June 12th, 2015)
This is a 12-hour event that takes place at Jack Kilby Square on the second Friday of June. Relay For Life starts at dusk and ends at the next day's morning. The light and darkness of the day and night parallel the physical effects, emotion, and mental state of a cancer patient while undergoing treatment.
