The Barton Community College Foundation honored Larry and Kathy Schugart with the 2018 Distinguished Service Award during Barton’s 48th commencement Friday.   

The Distinguished Service Award was created in 1981 by the Barton Community College Foundation to recognize individuals who have shown genuine regard for, and have performed outstanding service to, Barton Community College. The Barton Foundation Board of Directors selects the recipient from nominations received.

Five Barton instructors earned the Distinguished Instructor Award for the 2017-2018 school year for their efforts in the classroom.

The winners are:

Oleg Ravitskiy – Great Bend Campus (Full-time)

Kayci Strickland – Great Bend Campus (Adjunct)

James Henderson – Grandview Plaza Campus (Full-time)

Makenzie Maldonado– Grandview Plaza Campus (Adjunct)

Barton Community College will be closed Monday, May 28 for Memorial Day. 

The college is on summer hours effective May 14. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The college will be closed on Fridays through August 3.

Barton Community College has announced its 2017-18 Brant J. Ballhorst Student Ambassador of the Year awards. Named in memory of Brant J. Ballhorst, the award recognizes two outstanding Student Ambassadors each year.  The winners this year were Konner Ireland of Great Bend and Cynthia Torres of Liberal.

U.S. Rep. Roger Marshall, M.D. has agreed to help Barton Community College celebrate the achievements of the class of 2018 as keynote speaker.

Students from the Criminal Justice, Medical Assistant, Nursing and EMS programs at Barton Community College participated in a day-long string of intense, realistic scenarios designed to test their knowledge and ability to respond in-the-moment Saturday during the college’s annual Field Ops Day.

Dance enthusiasts can take the opportunity to gain valuable experience as a dancer in a company setting. Barton Community College is hosting a second round of auditions for its dance company, Barton Dance Theatre, at 6 p.m. Monday, May 14 in Studio 34, located in the Sunflower housing units on Barton’s campus.

The annual Barton Community College Foundation Sporting Clay Shoot continues to grow every year with a record 197 shooters who turned out to support the cause and test their aim and reflexes with a shotgun on April 22 at Camp Aldrich. The Barton Foundation exceeded its fundraising goal for mini-grants that faculty can use to purchase equipment or enhance their classrooms.
